Bird Patrol

"Bird Patrol" is the seventh episode of the third season of Doom Patrol. It premiered on HBO Max on October 21, 2021.

Synopsis[]

Vic consults an old friend for help with a major life change, Cliff takes his online habits too far, and Jane battles the "others" for Kay. Sensing imminent danger, Madame Rouge attempts to rally the highly distracted group.

Plot[]

Holly McKenzie finishes creating a giant cage while celebrating with Lloyd Jefferson the start of the Eternal Flagellation, sending out invitations all over the world. Larry eventually vomits up the parasite, which turns out to be a larva, and passes out without seeing that he got the invitation. In Orsus Labs, Vic is treated by Dr. Chalmers, who reveals to be an old friend of Elinore's, who resigned from S.T.A.R. Labs after the 9/11 attack and is surprised by Vic's cyber, who reveals that he is determined to remove it at the request of the late Elinore without Silas knowing, but Chalmers convinced Vic to call someone close for their opinion. Cliff argues with Jane about selling her music records until they realize they have the symbols of the Sisterhood of Dada on them and refuse to help Laura protect the Doom Manor, despite that Laura yelled that it was everyone's problem. Learning that Cliff stole his exercise videos, Flit sent Cliff over to Clara and Mel's house, claiming that he was overcoming Parkinson's.

In 1949, Laura interrogates ex-soldier Wally Sage, who shows his skills in bringing fictional comic book things to life, creating a beach ball, impressing Laura, who declares it a useful weapon for the Bureau of Normalcy to create fictional artillery. Rita confronts Laura about her resentful behavior, reminding her that the Sisterhood misses her at their parties, though Laura proceeded to smoke without a care and Rita left a document for her. Reunited with Malcolm DuPont, Rita expressed her concern for Laura, as did Malcolm and they proceeded to dance romantically until a group of soldiers began to cross the area. Laura wakes up Larry, observing his tumor turned into a larva, deducing that the parasite entered Larry since his trip to the Negative Nebula and Larry thought that he should give it a name as a solution, making Laura angry, who ordered her to burn it. to the parasite. Gaining Mel's trust, Cliff talks to Clara, who shows concern about the mist and Cliff promised to protect the family while thinking about the card. The Sisterhood was sad in their lair until Rita and Malcolm arrive with faces made by them and the couple changed them to show their romance, something the Sisterhood was not happy about, causing Sachiko to get angry, expressing that they should provoke the Eternal Flagellation to change the world, which Rita and Malcolm considered dangerous because they wanted to make a better world. Lloyd chuckled, releasing his anger that people of his color had died during World War II, refusing to let the world get better. The Sisterhood was sad in their lair until Rita and Malcolm arrive with faces made by them and the couple changed them to show their romance, something the Sisterhood was not happy about, causing Sachiko to get angry, expressing that they should provoke the Eternal Flagellation to change the world, which Rita and Malcolm considered dangerous because they wanted to make a better world. Cliff used Clara's card to see Ginger, before raising his hands through the fog.

Jane, Vic and Cliff (both drugged) are sent to the old Sisterhood headquarters. Larry returns to the manor, interrupting Laura's defense method, however, they both end up sucked into the fog. Laura finally returns with the Sisterhood, who are happy to see her, starting to dance because together they would do the Eternal Flagellation. At the same time in the present, the group began to dance in the style of the Sisterhood, causing Laura to begin to reminisce. Laura delivers an inspiring speech to her friends, before revealing her betrayal against them to become loyal soldiers, but the agents captured the Sisterhood without mercy and Shelley Byron was angered by her friend's betrayal. Forced by Wilhelm, Laura betrayed her friends, turning them into a weapon. In the present, Laura had a former bureau, declaring arms to Larry, Cliff, Vic and Jane, crying to finally remember her past. Rita was angry with Laura for her betrayal, even though they were friends and when Wally attacked Rita, Malcolm sacrificed himself for the love of his life, dying in front of Rita and her bird, causing Rita to cry, turning into a mass. to escape. Returned to the present, Rita appeared in front of Laura and the group to inform the Sisterhood that Laura was ready.

On the outskirts of the manor, the group met Rita and the Sisterhood observing an egg with blue spots in the giant cage, from which a kind of bird with Malcolm's face came out, for which Rita asked her to release it for killing him and Laura defended herself because she did what she had to do for her country. The Sisterhood claimed Laura because they served the bureau for several years, considering Laura someone bad, despite the fact that she denied it and Rita offered to atone by freeing Malcolm, something Laura denied because she atoned for having turned them into weapons. Startled, Jane was transported by birds with faces of all their personalities.
