Plot[]
In 2016, the Bureau of Normalcy sends an agent to change the mannequins in the Were-Butts' cell, but he ends up being massacred by the creatures. Rita reunites with the Doom Patrol to orchestrate their plan to stop the Buttpocalypse and its terrible future, so Rita gives some suggestions to change their course, with Rita wearing sneakers, asking Jane to wear a new style of clothing, and Cliff stop saying "fuck", although Vic mentions that they must make a real change to change the future. As a trade off against the future, Rita reminds the team that they had fought the Butts when they were zombies, planning to go to Darren Jones's old barn due to it being the last Zombie Butt that escaped that night. With another suggestion, Vic asks that a new team leader be chosen, an option that Cliff, Jane and Larry accept, frustrating Rita, who complains that her friends are not fit to lead, asking to know who they would choose.
The Doom Patrol choose Laura as a trial leader while Cliff, Vic and Larry discuss how everything could change if Laura led them, since her future self was not to blame. Rita and Cliff begin to fight, saying "fuck", before being stopped by Laura, who suggests finishing off Darren before the infection spreads, taking Rita's map to find Zombie Butt and Rita getting mad at the team for choose Laura, considering her a failure to be a villain and a heroine at the same time. Despite Rita's claims to always save them, Vic agreed to let Laura lead the team, causing Rita to refuse to participate in the mission. Laura asked the team to give her time to review Rita's materials, ordering a 1 hour rest to stop Darren, however, Laura tells Cliff that they will both go on a secret mission against Darren, considering Cliff capable of killing him and Cliff agrees to go with Laura. In 2017, scientists at the Ant Farm recruit linguistics expert, Doctor Margaret Yu, who is shown the Butts to use as weapons, and Yu ends up falling in love with the Butts. Vic is looking for Darren on the internet, receiving a message to reunite with Deric Hayes and before responding, Vic discovers that another Zombie Butt was going to be delivered to the Bureau.
Larry takes care of his flowers while trying to talk Keeg to be together, starting an argument with his son, asking him what the Future Keeg told him, assuming that he was the cause of their separation, but Keeg started to run away, being followed by Larry and an angry Rita. Jane opens the bag with several infinite puzzles, getting angry that none of them had pieces that could be put together. Vic and Jane find out that Laura and Cliff left them and Jane overheard Vic's plan to catch the other Zombie Butt before the Bureau did, inviting Jane on their mission, which she accepts, leaving Doom Manor to avoid trouble between Rita and Larry. Cliff and Laura go on a bike trip looking for Darren until Cliff stops to look at a 1974 Gran Torino, remembering that it was one of the first cars he fixed with his father, feeling nostalgic when he fixed the cars, refusing to feel the car for his plan to feel Rory. Laura considers that Cliff's decision was noble, being surprised to have people who love him, comparing herself to her friend thinking that her future self was alone, believing that the two were looking for a home, mistaking Cliff for his speech and Laura mentions having believed that the car was a metaphor. The two continue to argue, before seeing Darren drive and sing on a tractor.
Returned to 2017, Yu organizes a musical for General Wampus, where the Butts sing the song Shipoopi. Yu explains to Wampus the nature of the Butts during the musical, showing the creatures as intelligent beings, talking about Nicholas and Teddy's bond, but from what Yu said, Wampus interrupts the Butts, causing them to rage against him. from his cell, causing the fear of Wampus. The agents decide to finally use the Butts as weapons, angering Yu because they were beings capable of coexisting with the humans, although she ends up being demoted from her position. Larry continues looking for Keeg while Rita confronts him again about Laura's choice as leader, complaining about paying more attention to Keeg than her, unleashing Larry's anger, stating that Rita was a bad leader as soon as she came back from the past, declaring that He was responsible for his future self, wanting to make things right with his son and Rita leaves after being humiliated by Larry, as leading the Doom Patrol was her only purpose.
At the park, Jane and Vic pretended to be undercover agents while arguing about how Vic felt bad about the fate of his future self, complaining about his desire to move on and move on with his life, shocking Jane that her friend knew what he was up to. he was looking for, so Vic asked Jane if she spoke to Kay, even though she was missing. Vic tells Jane how Kay was with the team months ago, trying to tell her what Kay said in her interview as he did with Niles, and Jane wanted to know what Kay wanted, before stopping as the Butt charger was arriving. In the barn, Laura talked to Cliff about how they would defend themselves with their helmets just as Willoughby Kipling did with her and the hats, avoiding being tried by their brains. The duo confront Darren, who friendly welcomes them to his farm, being translated by Cliff and Darren recounting how he found redemption by only wishing for tomatoes instead of brains, refusing to go back to normal. Recognizing that sooner or later his time would come, Darren asked Cliff to be killed, something he refused as he did not wish to harm an innocent zombie, listening to Darren's last prayers, asking his former enemy to take care of his tomatoes.
As the two argued, Laura used a rope to remove Cliff's helmet, sparking Darren's desire for brains, attacking Cliff, forcing him to have to fight Darren, killing him heavily in front of Laura, who recalled how he used innocent people like weapons, as with Cliff, who after feeling cold on Darren's skull, was terrified to see that he felt pain without the glove, thanking Laura for forcing him to fight. Vic and Jane met with Agent Butt Hunter, who while eating an apple, told the pair how the Bureau hired him to catch and kill several Butts who escaped during the Ant Farm breakout, mentioning that the last one was hard to track because it seemed infected, and Jane mentioned that she was a zombie, which confused the hunter. Butt Hunter delivered the Zombie Butt in a frozen box to Vic and Jane, who promptly left thanks to Flit, making a fool of the Butt Hunter as they watched the two real agents arrive. In 2019, Yu was watching musicals during the Ant Farm breakout and the Butts attacked Cliff and the agents. After the escape, the scientists evacuate, except for Yu, who sees Nicholas hiding in fear.
Rita realizes that Larry still hadn't been able to calm Keeg down while making himself some tea, before seeing Cliff and Laura arrive excited for killing Darren, and Larry reluctantly congratulating them on not bringing the whole team. Vic and Jane interrupted the celebration by carrying the last Zombie Butt in a cooler, something Laura appreciated, congratulating the Doom Patrol on their solo missions, proclaiming the Buttpocalypse, and the team leaving Cliff in charge of killing the Butt. Cliff sees the Zombie Butt with pity while he saw his bloody glove, lamenting for not feeling his grandson and only feeling the violence, suffering for a minute while his hand went out of control due to Parkinson's and Laura looked at her friend with pity. Vic agrees to have completed the mission, replying to Deric's message to reunite up on Friday. Jane watches Vic's interview with Kay, where he talks about how everyone in The Underground could find their purpose, as well as Jane putting all the pieces together, encouraging her to complete the puzzle. At her home, Yu listens to the song The Ladies Who Lunch, sitting at the table with Nicholas, sharing a musical moment over dinner.
