"Am I only one who is tired of letting the world label us? Misfit, eccentric, good, evil, weapon. It's time we choose to label ourselves. Who are we? What are we? Why are we? Maybe we are weapons, but a weapon is only a tool as dangerous as the hand that wields it. What if we choose to become weapons for good?"
Rita Farr[src]

The Doom Patrol were a group of superheroes active in the 50's and in the 2020s dedicated to protecting the world from bizarre and dangerous threats. The original team was led by Niles Caulder had many battles with the Brotherhood of Evil, before a disastrous fight with Mr. Nobody caused them all to go insane. And now some of them members of the Doom Patrol lived in a shared illusion created by Mento, with Joshua Clay as their caretaker.

After Niles' death and deciding to become superheroes, Rita Farr, an extravagant ex-actress with elastic powers, Larry Trainor, an individual with a powerful negative spirit, Crazy Jane, a young woman with 64 different personalities, Cliff Steele, a brain transferred in an indestructible robot body, Vic Stone, a former cybernetic vigilante known as Cyborg, and Laura De Mille, a former member of the Brotherhood of Evil, reformed the Doom Patrol, fighting different threats in defense of Cloverton, operating in the Doom Manor, and having missions under the temporary name Doom Force.

Having heroic adventures and protecting Cloverton, the Doom Patrol accidentally traveled through the Time Stream to 2042, where the world was devastated by the zombies Were-Butts and they died, so the team searched for a way to reverse their grim future, before becoming involved in the rise of the deity Immortus in the body of Isabel Feathers, costing the longevity of Rita, Jane, Larry and Cliff. The Doom Patrol and their allies did everything possible to stop Immortus without success, refusing to face Isabel because of her immense power, but with Rita on the brink of death, the Doom Patrol did everything possible to confront Immortus and the Butts, although the two threats were redeemed by their musical love. After Rita's death, the Doom Patrol regained their longevity and cremated Rita's body, agreeing to go their separate ways to improve their lives, ending the team.

History[]

The First Doom Patrol[]

Early Years[]

During the 50s, the Doom Patrol was a minor superhero team organized by Niles Caulder. They dueled frequently with the Brotherhood of Evil, specifically its leader Ultimax. Eventually, they managed to capture Ultimax's helm, though the Brain got away.

During this time Niles also met former actress Rita Farr after her cellular structure became completely unstable due to being exposed by a toxic gas in the Amazon. Niles took Rita to his mansion in order to help her with her situation, during this time Rita also became romantically involved with Mento but their relationship ended after he found out her secret.

Against Mr. Nobody[]

The Doom Patrol's final fight was against Mr. Nobody. On Memorial Day weekend, Nobody deployed a jukebox on a hot air balloon shaped like a butt into a crowded park. The jukebox played "Hot Diggity" by Perry Como on repeat, and within 20 minutes had driven anyone in earshot insane. When the police arrived on the scene, they were hit with a Transformer Ray, changing them all into Piñatas. The crazed crowd then ripped open the Piñatas, eating the candy inside. Arani Desai described this as the most horrible thing she'd ever seen.

When the Doom Patrol finally did arrive on the scene, they were met by Mr. Nobody and a horde of Vinyl Warriors, entities made of long-playing records. Mr. Nobody used the Doom Patrol's fears against them, causing them to turn on each other.

Eventually, the Metahuman Joshua Clay was brought on board to live with look over the aging Doom Patrol, and he continued to look after the againg Doom Patrol after the Chief's disappearance.

Unexpected Guests[]

In 2019, the Doom Patrol continued to live their illusion, teaching various children to practice their powers at their headquarters until receiving an unexpected visit from Niles's patients: Jane, Larry Trainor, and Rita, who met Joshua. For her part, Rita reunited with Steve, reminiscing about their old love affairs while looking at their trophies for the team's victory and the defeat of the Brotherhood of Evil. Larry talked to Arani about Niles and his secret of having a daughter and being married to her, shocking Larry to remember that he was kidnapped by Nobody. Jane talked to Joshua about Niles wanting to give him a room at the Doom Patrol asylum, asking for answers and Steve and Arani claiming they beat Nobody.
