- "I'm not letting her go to that decrepit asylum with the old Doom Patrol."
"Nobody is going back to that home." - —Crazy Jane and Niles Caulder[src]
The Doom Patrol Retirement Home is the former headquarters of the original Doom Patrol before it was converted into their retirement home following their defeat by Mr. Nobody.
History[]
Heardquarters[]
In the 1950s, Niles Caulder and the Doom Patrol set up shop in a manor that would serve as their headquarters for when they needed to be alerted for a mission. In 1958, the Doom Patrol was defeated by Niles' arch-enemy, Mr. Nobody, who traumatized the team's members, Steve Dayton, Arani Desai and Rhea Jones, with their greatest fears, causing the trio to stay living in their headquarters now converted into an asylum and being cared for by Joshua Clay after Niles' abandonment. Using his mental power, Steve created a perfect illusion where he pretended that they were never defeated and that the home became a school.[1]
Unexpected Guests[]
In 2019, after being encouraged by Mr. Nobody, Crazy Jane decides to search for the Doom Patrol in their retirement home, receiving the help of Rita Farr and Larry Trainor, discovering that the heardquarters became a school for young metahumans and they were guided by Joshua while Rita reunited with Steve, who was her ex-lover in 1958. Rita learned about the Doom Patrol's victories, being guided by Steve into the trophy room, showing the helmet of Ultimax, the leader of the Brotherhood of Evil, among other items, and told him about his alleged victory against Nobody.
Larry saw Arani's room, who talked about Nobody's defeat and that she was married to Niles, surprising Larry when he saw Niles being away from Nobody. Joshua told Jane the truth about Niles having a room ready for him at the retirement home until Rita mentioned that Nobody was ever defeated, causing Steve's powers to go out of control and forcing Rita, Jane, Joshua and Larry to be tormented by their fears. Luckily for everyone, Larry's Negative Spirit placed the mental helmet on Steve to calm him down, returning everything to normal. Joshua showed the trio the reality of the tormented Doom Patrol and that the false reality only kept them happy, saying goodbye to the trio to continue their search for Niles after Rita said goodbye to Steve to wish him luck in overcoming his trauma.[1]
Jane's Visit[]
After rescuing Niles from White Space and learning that he was responsible for her having her alternate personalities, Jane went to the retirement home to confront Joshua for never telling her, something Joshua attempted to forgive, suggesting to use a special drug created by Niles to calm their personalities, warning that it was experimental, which Jane stole to start getting high and calm her alters.[2]
