Slava, also known sometimes as Oyewah, was the woman whom Niles Caulder met during the 1910s while the latter was on an expedition mission for Bureau of Oddities. She later became Niles' lover.
Biography[]
She was the only survivor of a once proud ancient tribe. At some point, she became a target of Bureau of Normalcy.
Meeting Niles[]
In 1913, Slava found Niles Caulder in the forests of the Northern Yukon Territory and took him back to her cave, where she bound and treated his broken leg. Slava brought food back to the cave for Niles, but otherwise seemed to rarely acknowledge his presence.
When Niles had an outburst about the bodies of the dead hunters in the cave, Slava took him to her sacred site, where she built a funeral pyre for the bodies. Ancient paintings at the site depicted the history of Slava's people, and implied that she was an immortal member of her tribe, living on through each generation until she became the only one left. As the bodies burned, Slava summoned Manny in front of Niles for the first time.
As time passed, Slava and Niles found themselves on friendlier terms. After caring for each other through a mutual illness, the pair became lovers.[1] A few months later, Niles met Alistair who was still alive and Niles killed him to hide Slava but Niles found himself in the camp and returned to the Bureau of Oddities leaving Slava alone.
Birth of her daughter[]
At some point, Slava gave birth to Dorothy Spinner. Niles was unable to be there to see his daughter. Slava knew that Dorothy was born with the same powers, and that she was born with a dangerous creature that was capable of destroying the world and that creature was called the Candlemaker. She also knew that Dorothy must defeat Candlemaker. She gave Manny to Dorothy.
Death[]
At some point Slava died leaving Dorothy alone on her own and captured in a circus and in 1927, Niles would find her and rescue Dorothy.
Making Dorothy fulfill her destiny[]
Slava appeared as a ghost at the fair where Niles and Dorothy spent one last day together before Willoughby Kipling had to take Dorothy. When Dorothy appeared in Yukon, Slava told her that she must fulfill her destiny and beat Candlemaker. As Dorothy did not want to fulfill her destiny, Slava chose to free Candlemaker herself and allow Dorothy to grow up and face him. She began to free him at the fair leaving Niles and Kipling worried about the possible end of the world.
After Candlemaker defeated the Niles's creations by turning them into wax, Slava appeared in front of Dorothy. She revealed to Dorothy and Niles that she was the one who released Candlemaker which made Niles angry and put his daughter in trouble. Slava said it was about time and he brought wood and fire for Dorothy to come by and face Candlemaker. She gave Dorothy the red boots. Dorothy created her weapon and Slava wished her luck. Candlemaker showed up and took Dorothy away so that she could fulfill her destiny by leaving Niles crying and screaming Dorothy's name.
